Challenges in Traditional Office-Site Communication  

In the construction sector, team members often work from different locations, highlighting the need for strong communication between site and office teams. Engineers commonly spend up to a few hours a day traveling between these locations. Despite this commitment to face-to-face communication, current remote communication tools like text messages with photos or videos from the site often fall short, missing crucial context for office engineers to fully understand site conditions. When office teams try to convey design changes to the site, these methods can lead to confusion and errors. These communication gaps can be costly, sometimes leading to significant project losses or even unsafe infrastructure.  

Introducing CollaboVision  

Given these challenges, we developed CollaboVision, a tailored remote communication tool. It enables site and office teams to address issues collaboratively during a video call. Unlike standard video call apps, CollaboVision fully simulates a natural side by side working experience, allowing both parties to view and contribute to annotations in real-time. The tool is available as a mobile application for site users and a web application for office users. The mobile app allows users to freeze video feeds, providing live voiceovers and annotations, while the web app optimizes shared construction designs for mobile viewing without constant zoom adjustments.  

Integration with VisionBuilder  

CollaboVision is a core capability of VisionBuilder and integrates seamlessly with the platform. With the aid of an indoor positioning system (IPS), office teams can view the real-time location of site teams and initiate calls based on their location. Since VisionBuilder is BIM-focused, all annotations get linked to specific BIM components, simplifying future references and decision-making processes.
